Douglas L. Weed, M.D., M.P.H., Ph.D.

Dr. Douglas L. WeedDr. Weed is an independent scientific consultant. He is a physician-epidemiologist with 25 years of experience in epidemiological research and research training. Dr. Weed received his M.D. from the Ohio State University and his M.P.H. and Ph.D. degrees in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina. His research focuses on the methods of general causation, cancer causation, systematic reviews, and weight-ofevidence methods. In addition, he has written extensively on the ethics of epidemiology and public health. He holds academic appointments at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health and at the Georgetown University Kennedy Institute of Ethics. He co-chaired the National Academy of Sciences Committee on the Daubert decision and was a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Judicial Center (Washington, DC). He is the past-chair of the American College of Epidemiology's Ethics and Standards of Practice Committee.

Dr. Weed is the former Chief, Office of Preventive Oncology, the Director of the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program, and the Director of the Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention and Control at the National Cancer Institute. He served as the Chair of the Prevention Working Group of the National Cancer Institute/All Ireland Cancer Consortium. He is the author of over 100 journal publications and has edited two books: Cancer Prevention and Control (Marcel Dekker, 1995) and Ethics and Epidemiology (Oxford, 2009).

Dr. Weed is the founder and managing member of DLW Consulting Services, LLC. This scientific consulting company provides expertise in disease causation, the methods of causal inference, weight of evidence methods, epidemiological and clinical research methods, and the ethics of epidemiology and public health. DLW Consulting Services, LLC specializes in providing expert advice and guidance on problems at the interface of health, law, commerce, and public policy. Typical projects include expert testimony and consultation in toxic tort litigation, assessments of health risks from exposure to chemicals, infectious agents, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices, as well as assessments of key methodological and ethical problems facing stakeholders. Examples of such problems include: scientific uncertainty, conflicts of interest, and methods used in legal and regulatory contexts to determine general and specific causation.

Jane Nelson Worel Jane Nelson Worel, MSN, APRN-BC, APNP is President of the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA) and the Coordinator of the Cardiovascular Disease in Women Program at Meriter Hospital, in Madison, Wisconsin. She is a Fellow of the American Association of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation, a member of the American Heart Association and serves on the National Physical Activity and Metabolism Council's Obesity Committee.
